I was cleaning out the basement yesterday and there are still some boxes I have to organize so that I can label them properly and know exactly what’s in them. As I was opening them up to see which boxes should be on the bottom of the pile, I found the one with all of my vet receipts in it for Simon and Bijoux. I just started sorting through all the paperwork and I found out all of their birthdays (I’m organizing their stuff with Einstein and Dyson’s). So….

Simon- June 6, 2001
Bijoux- May 10, 2007
Dyson- May 21, 2012
Einstein- May 21, 2012

These dates are all approximate of course since I found Simon in a Tim Horton’s parking lot and the vet estimated he was about 9 months old, and Bijoux, formerly known as Heidi (wtf? She doesn’t look like a Heidi at all), was adopted from the SPCA and her tag said she was a barn cat that was seized so her date is only approximate as well. Of course you know about Einstein and Dyson’s origins, but they’re probably the most accurately aged since we found them so tiny. To determine their age they look at their teeth, but of course like people, some cats have teeth that grow in at a different rate, etc. It’s a fairly decent estimate though. But Simon!! He’s 12 years old! What an old boy. I wish he could live forever. I’ve had him since I was 16. We’ve been through a lot together.

Dyson weighs: 8.2lbs

Einstein weighs: 9lbs

What a little heifer! lol, naw he’s all muscle and I’m proud of my little guys getting so big! To think when I first found them they only weighed one pound each. *tear*

It’s been a rough month for Einstein. He’s been getting diarrhea regularly and it really hasn’t been fun. At first we thought it was something he ate because he loves sampling people food. We thought maybe that people food was getting to be too rich for him so we were really careful about keeping him away from our plates. This is no easy task. The first night we tried this he stole a piece of steak fat right off my mom’s plate and ran away with it so we couldn’t take it away. lol Keeping him away didn’t seem to be helping and that’s when I found out my dad had been feeding them in the mornings, even though I had asked him not to feed them because I was doing it. So thanks to a large crap under his chair, my dad finally wised up and stopped feeding them, ensuring that they’re only getting the food I give them. Unfortunately, yesterday and the day before proved that overfeeding still wasn’t the problem and I was starting to get worried. It was the first time he had problems two days in a row, and last night he had diarrhea three times. That’s definitely not good. So I managed to get him into the vet today and the good news is, it’s in the lower intestine which means it’s nothing TOO serious (think liver and kidney diseases), the bad news is cost me $145 to put him on an 8-day course of antibiotics and a 2-week course of pro-biotics. Thankfully he’s really awesome at taking medicine so I shouldn’t have too much trouble on that front. The vet warned me that the pill is super bitter and that I may have to force it down his throat if he won’t take it in a pill pocket, but he didn’t seem to mind the pill… He ate the pill pocket (of course lol) and then continued to lick the pill so I just fed it to him and that was that. We’ll see if he’s as easy-going tomorrow. He really likes the pro-biotic gel too and was actually licking up all the residue from the counter top. So that’s what’s been going on here and hopefully within a couple of days he’ll be good as new, otherwise it means he has a food allergy and that will get tricky!

Today I had a little moment. Dyson jumped up on my keyboard and was sniffing around the shelf I have my monitor on when I suddenly remembered that he used to fit underneath it! OMG they’ve gotten so big. And they’re still growing!

Sometimes I’m really amazed at how big and strong the kittens have gotten. It seems like just yesterday they fit in my palm and were drinking from a bottle. Now they run around like little crazies and no longer fit in my shoe. It’s pretty awesome, especially since I was scared Einstein wasn’t going to make it.
